The book in all: Really good
You know a book is good when your eyes are as round as circles and the only thing you can think when you’ve read the last sentence is “Oh my God”.

The book ”Modelland” by the amazing woman Tyra Banks is quite the book of fantasy I must say. The world inside these folders is very elaborate and spectacular. I haven’t read anything like this ever before, but I also have never read a proper full-on fantasy tale before. There are no dragons, trolls and fairies, although maybe not far from it if you modernize and fashionize the classic fairy tale creatures.
Tyra Banks is, as I think we all know, famous for her supermodel career, which is only one of the many things she does in her life as a business woman, and she know the fashion- and model world by heart. Therefore there is no surprise that the book is about just that. (Also the title gives it away a bit).
Frankly the book is about Tookie, a fifteen-year-old girl with untameable hair, a large forehead, a gawky body and eyes in two different colours. She’s not the typical definition of beautiful. And there is this school, Modelland, where only a few of the prettiest girls in the world get invited to attend, and of course no one would ever imagine Tookie being invited. But that’s what happens, and that’s the start of a story I will remember for a good while.
Bullying, alienation, family issues, fear, thrill, friendship, love and plot twists are just a few of the elements included in this book. And you can also see some criticism towards the fashion industry and society’s narrow definition of “beauty”.
I’ll admit that it took me some time to get in to the book. The language it’s written in is a bit different from your typical novel, if you’ve seen Americas next Top model or The Tyra Banks show you’ll recognize Tyra’s personality in the language immediately. But when you just get used to her writing style you will be captured in a story that got everything there is to wish for.
I can't wait for the sequel! Let me know if you've read the book and if so, what you thought about it.
